The permitted well count in the Ohio Utica Shale continues to rise, with a total of forty one horizontal drilling permits issued through 9/6/2011, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Chesapeake Energy (CHK) is still far ahead of any other operator in the development of the Utica Shale. There have been twelve additional wells permitted since my previous update in late August, with all twelve operated by Chesapeake Energy.
