Cabot Oil and Gas - Marcellus Shale Update

Cabot Oil and Gas (COG) disclosed the following information on its Marcellus Shale operations as of 9/7/2011.

• Production of 410 million to 430 million cubic feet of natural gas per day from 115 wells (81 horizontal and 35 vertical).
• Twenty one wells are waiting on completion, fourteen wells are waiting on pipeline and eleven are undergoing completion operations.
• Five operated rigs.

2011 Marcellus Shale Program

• Sixty seven wells - 64 horizontal, 3 vertical.
• Average lateral length of 3,750 feet – range from 1,991 feet to 6,176 feet.
• Average of fifteen hydraulic fracturing stages per well – range from 8 to 26 per well.

Penn Virginia Reports Three Marcellus Shale Wells

Penn Virginia (PVA) reported the production rates of three wells recently completed into the Marcellus Shale on the company’s acreage in Pennsylvania.

Risser #A-1H – peak 24 hour production rate of 3.1 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, and a 72 hour test rate of 2.1 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Risser #A-2H - peak 24 hour production rate of 2.8 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, and a 72 hour test rate of 1.7 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Dunn #A-1H - peak 24 hour production rate of 4 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, and a 72 hour test rate of 2.7 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Penn Virginia said that these wells were located in Potter and Tioga counties and were the first horizontal wells drilled into the Marcellus Shale by the company.  The company has one well waiting on completion and plans to conduct vertical well testing on its acreage in the second half of 2011.

EXCO Resources Updates Second Quarter Of 2010 Marcellus Shale Operations

EXCO Resources (XCO) has 100,000 net acres in Pennsylvania and West Virginia that are prospective for the Marcellus Shale. The company reported during its second quarter of 2010 earnings release that 70% of this acreage is held by production.

EXCO Resources is operating one rig in the Marcellus Shale and drilled five horizontal and three vertical wells during the first half of 2010.
