Louisiana Department of Natural Resources - Updated Haynesville Shale Activity

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) updated recent activity by the industry in the Haynesville Shale in Louisiana.

The DNR said that as of September 27, 2012, there were 2,387 Haynesville Shale wells in Louisiana, with 2,107 of these wells currently producing.  An additional 188 wells have been permitted and are waiting on completions or other services.

The DNR reported that another 92 Haynesville Shale wells have been permitted, with drilling progressing on 29 wells and no drilling activity yet on 63 wells.  A map detailing the location of these wells is here.

GMX Resources Issues Haynesville Shale Update

GMX Resources (GMXR) issued an update on its operations in the Haynesville Shale, including data on production and well costs.

GMX Resources brought eight wells onto production during the fourth quarter of 2010.  These wells had an average lateral length of 5,356 feet and an average cost of $8.9 million.  The company indicated that this was a decline in average cost of $500,000 per well.

GMX Resources reported that the Mia Austin #6H Haynesville Shale well produced an average of 7.24 million cubic feet of natural gas per day during the first sixty days.  The Bosh Heisman #17H well was recently drilled and completed into the Haynesville Shale with a lateral length of 6,164 feet and a fifteen stage hydraulic fracturing operation.

Haynesville Shale Well Count Reaches 1601

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources issued an update on drilling activity in the Haynesville Shale in Louisiana.

The department reported a cumulative total of 1,601 total Haynesville Shale wells through September 30, 2010, comprised as follows:

Producing wells - 676

Waiting on Completion - 505

Drilling in progress - 141

Permitted/ Not drilling – 279
