Marathon Oil (MRO) is an active player in most of the major shale plays in North America, including the Haynesville Shale in East Texas and North Louisiana.
In the Haynesville Shale, Marathon Oil has 25,000 net acres under lease, but in 2009 is only participating in one gross well.
The company plans on ramping up its development over the next few years, and will have one rig operating in 2010, and 3-4 by 2013.
Marathon Oil’s total net resource potential is estimated at 100-150 million barrels oil equivalent.
