The Haynesville Shale - Chesapeake Energy

Aubrey McClendon, the CEO of Chesapeake Energy spoke at an investment conference last week and predicted that the play will become the country's largest source of natural gas production by 2014 or 2015.  Other industry groups have predicted that production will reach 4 billion cubic feet a day by 2014.

Chesapeake Energy holds 470,000 acres in the Haynesville.

The Haynesville Shale - Stratigraphy

Stratigraphy is defined as the branch of geology that studies the arrangement and succession of strata of rock, particularly the distribution, deposition, and age of sedimentary rocks.

Haynesville Shale - Goodrich Petroleum

One exploration and production company active in the Haynesville Shale is Goodrich Petroleum (GDP).  The company has 100% of its proved reserves in the Cotton Valley Trend of East Texas and North Louisiana. Some of this acreage is prospective for the Haynesville Shale. 

Goodrich Petroleum said that it has 63,000 net acres in the Haynesville Shale, and has 65% of its capital budget in 2009 directed to this area.

The company plans 40 gross (24 net) wells in the Haynesville Shale in 2009.
