Pioneer Natural Resources Company (PXD) has accumulated significant in the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas, with 310,000 acres under net lease. Most of its drilling to date has targeted the Edwards formation which is below the Eagle Ford Shale.
Pioneer Natural Resources just drilled its first horizontal well in the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas. The well was called the Friedrichs Gas Unit #1, located in Dewitt County. The well had an initial production rate of 3.7 million cubic feet per day of natural gas and 160 barrels per day of condensate.
The company reported that it had mechanical problems with the drilling, and only performed 5 out of an 8 stage hydraulic fracturing job.
Pioneer Natural Resources plans another horizontal well in the Eagle Ford Shale later in 2009.
