Nextraction Energy Progresses On Chattanooga Shale Well

Nextraction Energy Corporation reported that it was in the process of drilling the Mountain Mineral #5 well into the Chattanooga Shale close to the Kentucky and Tennessee border.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 2,521 feet at a cost of $170,000. NCE said that $120,000 would be needed to hydraulically fracture and complete this Chattanooga Shale well.

Netraction Energy and Vinland Energy Receive Permit To Drill Chattanooga Shale Well

Netraction Energy and Vinland Energy Operating, LLC, two private oil and gas companies, has received a permit to drill a well to test the potential of the Chattanooga Shale in Kentucky.

The Jennifer Conover #1 well is located near the border with Tennessee and will be drilled to a depth of 4,000 feet. Besides the Chattanooga Shale, the well will also test conventional zones including Big Lime, Knifely and Warsaw.

Netraction Energy and Vinland Energy Operating, LLC have 70,130 acres under lease in Whitley County and McCreary County in southeastern Kentucky.

The Chattanooga Shale - Description

The Chattanooga Shale is an Upper Devonian shale formation that runs through Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky. It runs concurrently and is located below the Floyd Shale, which is an Upper Mississippian Shale formation.

The Chattanooga Shale is not a major focus of the oil and gas industry since other shale plays are more attractive and delineated at this time. Companies that are currently developing its acreage include Geomet (GMET) and CNX Gas (CXG).
