Whiting Petroleum (WLL) reported a record high production rate on a Bakken well drilled and completed at the Tarpon Prospect in McKenzie County, North Dakota.
The Tarpon Federal 21-4H well produced at an initial production rate of 7,009 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per day, consisting of 4,815 barrels of oil and 13.163 million cubic feet of natural gas. This was the highest initial production rate of any well drilled into the Bakken in the Williston Basin.
The Tarpon Federal 21-4H well was completed with a thirty stage hydraulic fracturing operation and cost $6.35 million. Whiting Petroleum has 6,265 net acres at the Tarpon Prospect and estimates that the company can drill twelve Bakken and eight Three Forks wells at the property.
