Enerplus (ERF) announced that the company has acquired additional acreage in North Dakota that is prospective for the Bakken Shale.
Enerplus has added 46,500 net acres in 72 sections in the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation area in Dunn and McKenzie counties in North Dakota. This brings the company’s total acreage prospective for the Bakken Shale to 210,000 net acres. Enerplus also has acreage in the Sleeping Giant field in Montana and in Saskatchewan, Canada.
Enerplus paid $456 million for the acreage and expects the acquisition to close in October 2010. The properties acquired currently produce 800 barrels per day of oil, and proved plus probable reserves of 10 million barrels of oil equivalent.
